Job Application Class 12: CBSE Format, Resume and 5 Samples

Updated

The CBSE format for the Class 12 job application, with the cover letter and resume layout, marking scheme and five solved samples.

Job application class 12 format with resume

A job application class 12 question asks you to reply to an advertisement with a formal cover letter and a short bio-data or resume. CBSE sets it as one of two letter choices in the English Core writing section, for 5 marks, in about 120 to 150 words. Marks are split as format 1, organisation of ideas 1, content 2 and accuracy 1, so the layout, a clear structure and every detail from the advertisement all matter.

This guide covers the letter format, the resume layout, a fill-in practice letter and five solved samples.

Key Takeaways

  • Write two parts: a cover letter and a separate resume or bio-data.
  • Quote the advertisement, newspaper and date in the first paragraph.
  • Use the name, address and qualifications given in the question.
  • Keep the letter body to about 120 to 150 words; the resume is listed in points.
  • Close with “Yours faithfully” and mention “Enclosure: Resume”.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the word limit for a job application in Class 12?

CBSE sets about 120 to 150 words for letters in Class 12 English Core. The resume is written in points and is not counted strictly.

How many marks does the job application carry?

It carries 5 marks: 1 for format, 1 for organisation of ideas, 2 for content and 1 for accuracy of spelling and grammar.

Is a resume compulsory with a job application class 12 answer?

Yes. The CBSE syllabus describes it as an application for a job with bio-data or resume, so include both parts.

What is the difference between a bio-data and a resume?

In school exams they are used almost interchangeably. Both list personal details, education, experience and skills in short points.

Should I write “Yours faithfully” or “Yours sincerely”?

Use “Yours faithfully” with “Sir/Madam”, which is the usual salutation in a job application.

Where do I write “Enclosure”?

Write “Enclosure: Resume” below your name at the end of the letter.

Can I invent qualifications in the exam?

Add reasonable qualifications that fit the post if the question does not give them, but never contradict details given in the question.
